A picture paints … we know, we know!

One we’ve all heard of is a picture paints a thousand words. It’s definitely true; a really good picture can get across a story at a glance and as everyone in PR should know, a really good picture can make all the difference to getting your story covered.

What’s more, if it’s really eye catching it’ll transform the amount of coverage you get.

So my advice is never stint on the photography if you’re serious about getting your message across.

With this in mind, earlier this week I went on a road trip to Essex. My client Baby Bio is sponsoring the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust’s Summer of Open Gardens. The Air Ambulance gets no government funding; it has to raise everything it needs to keep the doctors and paramedics flying and saving lives. The Summer of Open Gardens is a big fundraising initiative and the team wanted to be sure the launch captured the attention of the local media so they invested time and effort in creating really good pictures.

They commissioned a professional photographer with experience of taking pictures for the media. No, your own pictures taken with your phone – however good the lens – are not good enough.

Then, as well as buying and creating different props, everyone was really flexible on timing to make sure we could include the air ambulances themselves; there’s nothing like a helicopter to add a little ‘sex’ to the picture!

The results are great and definitely worth the effort.

Don’t stint on your photography if you want good results!
